(Newswire.net — August 25, 2015) Hampton, Victoria — An Iowa couple has just been sentenced to over forty years in prison for forcing a twenty year old woman into prostitution and torturing her. The couple, Aldair Hodza and Laura Sorensen, were able to lure the victim into their RV last December, telling her they would take her to see a friend. They then crossed state lines and over the next eighteen days, the twenty-year-old was sexually assaulted and forced to have sex with men who answered to online ads. In addition, Hodza and Sorensen burned her with keys and scissors that had been heated over the RV’s stove and extinguished cigarettes on her body. They drove nails into her feet and poured bleach into her wounds, and dragged her by a dog leash down a gravel path.

According to ABCnews, the victim began fearing for her life when Hodza killed a dog in the RV and threatened to kill her by slowly cutting out her organs if she did not cooperate. She was finally saved when a trucker at a New Kent County truck stop called the police after spotting a frightened, malnourished looking woman through an RV window.

“As a detective, I’ve seen stuff, a lot of bad stuff,” says former police officer Glen Hulley who now leads Project Karma, a group dedicated putting a stop to sex trafficking in Southeast Asia. “I witnessed many things in some of the countries I visited … after having served with Victoria Police for over 12 years I thought I had a true understanding of the world, but soon found myself questioning what I valued most.”

“But over there the nature of the countries and level of corruption and police resources are just woeful. There is little or no child protection and offenders can often bribe their way out of the investigation before it reaches court,” Hulley explains.

While most people know that sex trafficking is a very real thing it often takes seeing it in their own world to make them want to take action against it. While the present threat of sex trafficking still looms on around the world, Hulley’s group http://www.projectkarma.org.au/ seeks to find an end to it. We know how to catch the travelling pedophiles, we know how to disrupt the criminal syndicates facilitating this market, we know how to save these children and give them a chance at life and we have the endorsement to work with and train local and national law enforcement agencies to serious affect this trade…. All that is needed is the funding now and that I cannot do myself, it takes many people coming together in support of something worthwhile and you can choose to be a part of that” says Hulley.

Sex trafficking poses a danger to adolescent girls across Southeast Asia. But what happens when one donates to Project Karma?

“By donating to my cause, you are enabling me to make a significant impact on the safety and well-being of children across some of the most high-risk areas of the world,” says Hulley.
