Yoga Adventure Retreats Become Popular Summer Trip

(Newswire.net — February 5, 2015) Denver, CO – More and more Americans are looking to get there yoga on away from their homes and local studios.  According to a recent online poll the majority of traveling Americans ages eighteen to sixty are looking for “yoga adventure retreats”, pre-arranged trips to exotic locales lead by yoga and meditation instructors, usually at five-star resorts.  Some of the most popular places for these trips are Mexico, Hawaii, Greece, and Costa Rica.

Ten years ago people needed a vacation after vacation, meaning that traveling often included numerous headaches and very little time for rest and relaxation.  That all has changed with the booming growth of yoga retreats.  People now shop for trips that are promised to not only be educational (think personal growth, health, etc.), but also relaxing and restorative.

“It’s wonderful that people are putting their health and well-being first,” says Julie Schoen, a yoga instructor based in New Mexico who leads annual international yoga retreats.  “These retreats are so much more than just traveling,” she says, “they really are life-changing.”

Schoen, who is returning to Blue Spirit Resort in Costa Rica this May, arranges her guests’ schedules so that there is plenty of balance when it comes to work and play.  A typical day on her retreat starts with a sixty minute yoga class followed by a guided meditation.  Breakfast is served in a beautiful open air room filled with the sounds of the ocean and traveling monkey families.  The guests then fill their mornings with walks on the beach, hikes through the rain forest, massages at the resort, and relaxation by the salt-water pool before returning for lunch.  After time spent surfing or reading on one of the numerous balconies, a second yoga class is offered.  After class guests usually return to their rooms to rest and change for dinner, which is filled with great conversation, amazing local food, and a glass of wine.

“Words really can’t explain how wonderful you feel when you arrive home after a week of being disconnected from technology.  You learn so much about yourself and how to really take care of yourself and those you love.”
