DALLAS (March 21, 2011) – A group of organizations, institutions, and local businesses  from Dallas and five other surrounding cities will come together on Saturday, April 23 to celebrate Earth Day and to support Heart House Dallas, an after school program for at-risk children. World Wear Project, a for-profit clothing collection and recycling company, will be delivering and picking up collection bins to all seven locations for Saturday April 23.  An eighth location will be open the following week from April 27-29 for those who cannot make the drop off on April 23. World Wear Project will make a contribution to Heart House Dallas based on the number of pounds of clothing collected.

“The textile recycling industry annually prevents 2.5 billion pounds of post-consumer textile product waste from entering the solid waste stream; that equals 10 pounds for every person in the United States,” Eileen Birnbaum, of World Wear Project, said. “I am gratified to be able to help the planet, and to give back to my community, specifically Heart House Dallas.”

Community sponsors have donated parking lot space for the recycling drive. Event organizers are asking people to gather their gently used items and bring them to one of the recycling locations the day of the event. Clothing, shoes, belts, handbags, hats, toys and stuffed animals are among the items that will be accepted. Volunteers will be on location to help unload cars and sort items. Collection bins will be set up from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, at the following sponsor locations:

  • SMU Catholic Ministries -3075 University Blvd, Dallas
  • Texas Women’s University – 8194 Walnut Hill Lane, Dallas
  • Texas Women’s University – 5500 Southwestern Medical Ave, Dallas
  • II Creeks Plaza – 2701 Custer Parkway,  Richardson
  • Cimarron Park Recreation Center – 201 Red River Trail, Irving
  • McWhorter Elementary School – 3678 Timberglen Road, Carrollton
  • Big Barn BBQ – 8021 Main Street, North Richland Hills
  • Congregation Shearith Israel (Clothing will be collected April 27-29) – 9401 Douglas Avenue, Dallas
