But…accidents do happen.

While boating, the family pet, a small 4 pound dog, jumped out of a boat on the way across the lake.

According to VPI Pet Insurance, a national insurance company that focuses on insuring pets, “It’s estimated that thousands of family pets die in drowning incidents each year, though real numbers are not known, because most incidents go unreported.”
Pet Place.com, in a recent article, stated that there are an estimated 5000 family pets die of drowning in the backyard pool each year.
These tragedies are avoidable.
Dr. David W. Reinhard, a consulting veterinarian for the insurance company was quoted as saying “Most preventive measures are common sense.”
We know to provide life vests for young children that could easily drown in certain circumstances. Why not for dogs?
