(Newswire.net — August 30, 2013) Toronto, ON — Bella Luma Films Inc. and CanWood Entertainment Inc. are pleased to announce they will host the POP 69 party on September 10th at the Hard Rock Café Toronto.

The party will celebrate the upcoming feature film production detailing the period between May and September of 1969 in the life of Toronto rock promoter John Brower culminating in the legendary September 13, 1969 Toronto Rock and Roll Revival festival.
The festival headlined by The Doors and the scene of the infamous Alice Cooper “chicken incident” also included John Lennon’s surprise appearance with Yoko, Eric Clapton, Klaus Voorman and Alan White performing as The Plastic Ono Band.
It was John’s enthusiastic reception and thrill of playing live again that may have prompted him to leave The Beatles the following week at Apple Records.
The film POP 69 is Brower’s personal account of these heady times, considered by many to be the high water mark of early pop culture.
Brower reflected, “We’re hosting the POP69 Party to celebrate the telling of what has become one of the great untold stories in all rock and roll. We begin filming in Spring 2014, and are assembling a team of recognized Canadian producers and talent to make, this a period-piece-ensemble worthy of the international renown of John and Yoko whose efforts for peace included the recording of ‘Give Peace A Chance’ which was first sung live at the revival.
John Lennon’s surprise appearance was the first time any of The Beatles had stepped out from the group.
The festival included one of the last live performances by Jim Morrison and the Doors, and saw Kim Fowley as Emcee ask the audience to light matches and lighters to welcome a nervous Lennon to the stage. This was the first time matches and lighters were lit in this fashion and since became a tradition in rock and roll.
Eric Clapton, Chicago, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bo Diddley and Little Richard also shared the stage that day.
Brower has written the script and will produce the film with his team of ever widening talent.
“This was a really fun time for me and many of my friends as we negotiated the cultural landscape, occasionally participating in its creation.”
Based on historical events the film relates the back-story of Brower with partners Ken Walker and George and Thor Eaton as they bring this historic festival into being.
President of CanWood Entertainment (canwoodentertainment.com) Gordon Weiske, adds, “We are thrilled to have the Hard Rock Café Toronto as the venue sponsor for our POP 69 party which is being held in the second floor private parlour, itself witness to many legendary moments in Toronto rock and roll history, and the perfect location to celebrate the launch of this iconic story on film.”
Doors open at 9pm On September 10th 2013 at the Hard Rock Café Toronto (Dundas Square-279 Yonge Street).
