Commenting recently, Lovatts Heating & Plumbing stated how important it is to be prepared for the winter months. Pipes can freeze within hours if not insulated properly or are in vulnerable places.
Lovatts Heating & Plumbing have recently sent five tips to help prevent house pipes from freezing to their Cirencester, Malmesbury, Fairford, Northleach, Tetbury and Bibury customers.
1) Check and ensure all pipes are insulated in the roof space and shut any stopcocks that supply water to external hose union taps.
2) Wrap the cold storage tank with extra insulation; an old blanket will do.
3) Plug up holes – look for gaps where television cables and telephone lines come through your wall and seal them up using gap filler – this will stop cold air from getting in.
4) Never leave a house for a few days or longer during the winter months without leaving your heating switched on as normal but with the room thermostat set down at around 12C.
5) Open all kitchen and bathroom cabinets and leave the roof trap partially open to allow some heat into the roof space when the temperature drops to below 1C.
They also advise, never under estimate the damage and upheaval caused by burst pipes, so strongly recommend that prior to winter plumbing systems are checked and the boiler is serviced.
