(Newswire.net — October 18, 2013) Denver, CO — In a worldwide study combining data from multiple studies, the Journal of Internal Medicine released its findings after a half-decade of study. Dr. Joel Cherdack, owner and chiropractor at The Denver Pain Management Clinic in Denver, CO says, “This is good news for patients who are looking for a nonsurgical alternative treatment that does not rely on pharmaceuticals.”

The 2012 studies of the benefits of acupuncture pooled data from worldwide studies and showed that there was a definable benefit to acupuncture in comparison to western medical treatments. The study also compared data of patients suffering from other forms of chronic pain, including migraines. It concluded that, whether or not it could be attributed to a placebo effect, acupuncture reduced the suffering of patients with chronic pain disorders. Although there are still skeptics that deny the benefits of alternative medicine, 3 million Americans per year seek out the treatment and the US Military recently adopted it as an accepted practice.

Holistic medical practices have been increasingly popular in the Denver Metro Area. Dr. Cherdack says, “More patients are seeking safer, nonsurgical alternatives to relieve their chronic pain. There is not a one-size-fits-all solution that will work for every patient. Having a variety of treatment options including chiropractic medicine and physical therapy gives patients a voice in their own treatment. This has positive benefits that extend far beyond the doctor’s office.”

Dr. Cherdack found that there are many fascinating aspects to the recent studies that beg the question: does it matter how it works, or should effectiveness alone determine the treatment choice? “The study showed that the reduction in pain was demonstrated even for those suffering from inflammatory autoimmune diseases such as ankylosing spondylitis. If these procedures can reduce pain in our patients and promote their healing, we should keep an open mind and respect the opinions of the patient when determining the best treatment plan for them.”
