SHOPPERS are being cautioned of the risks of purchasing bogus items as ilegal gangs overflow the British industry with imitations for Xmas.

 

 

 

Counterfeit toys and products are big this festive season.


Criminals will go to unbelievable measures to get a slice of this season’s joyful shopping industry, with British people predicted to spend £6billion.


As families across the country struggle to pay for requirements like food and heating, an increasing number are required to look for good deals on the internet or in street markets.


One in five people on the internet incorrectly purchased bogus items while looking for the best products last season.

 

Brand protection specialist Mark Monitor says it will be more intense this season, with more than 8,000 websites identified as promoting duplicates of developer manufacturers such as Prada, Adidas and Mulberry bags, similar to the one shown above but of low quality.

Even before they are released formally, counterfeiters are mass- producing bogus PS4 and Xbox One nintendo wii in the Far East.

 

Gavin Terry, lead officer for the Trading Requirements Institution, said: “There are significant risks to purchasing bogus items, especially bogus electrical items or battery power which could cause shoots or electric excitement. If you buy bogus items for Presents, what kind of message are you sending to your friends and relatives?”

 

He added: “Counterfeiters do not adhere to the Sale of Goods Act or offer any form of guarantee.”

 

Gangs are also predicted to money in on the high price of cigarettes by surging the industry with cheap cigarettes and rolling cigarettes containing toxic materials.


Greater Birmingham cops also captured 50  bogus items, such as Hi Fi’s and Plasma TV’s, Tiffany bracelet jewelry, Dr Dre headsets, Lacoste shirts, Ice watches and Barbour jackets. The huge horlage was worth more than £2million.

Detective Examiner Frank Mossop said: “If you buy a bogus T-shirt or watch, you think you are getting a deal but you are lining the pouches of ilegal gangs who use your money to invest in their powers and buy weapons and drugs.


“Criminals can sell bogus items at the lowest prices so genuine businesses end up out of pocket and possibly going out of business.”
