(Newswire.net — November 5, 2013) Watford, Herts — The UK has been singled out as the most violent country in the EU, enduring more violent crime than the US and even South Africa. As a result, there has been a significant uptake in self-defence classes.
These disturbing figures issued by the EU and the United Nations have also credited the UK as experiencing 2,034 violent offences per 100,000 people, while Austria came in second with 1,677. The report also found that the UK had a higher homicide rate than Germany, Italy, Spain and France.
It’s no wonder that Selfdefencehelp.com reported that self-defence systems such as Krav Maga are seeing “a real boost in popularity” with men, women and children joining local classes and enrolling in online courses.
It’s widely thought that regular self-defence training can have a positive effect on daily life and is easier to learn than many people may think. It is also as much about precaution, and understanding how to avoid potentially dangerous situations as it is about physical actions. This is confimed by many self-defence and “fighting arts” clubs.
This seems to support the findings by The Telegraph earlier this year, who reported that research has found crime stops people walking in local areas. They also claimed that a “surge in violence” stops people from walking to work or even to the local shops.
Experts have also pointed to the UK’s relaxed licensing laws over the last few years, citing alcohol as major contributory factor to the violence, especially in the young and within city and town centres.
