(Newswire.net — December 2, 2013) Fairfield, CT — Adding to his expertise, Radu Popescu is now a Certified Energy Auditor and Quality Control Inspector in the home energy efficiency field, titles earned by successfully completing several Certification courses provided by BPI, the Building Performance Institute, based on testing protocols set by the American National Standards Institute.

The certifications from the Department of Energy came on top of BPI’sCertifications that Radu already had: ‘Building Analyst  BA’, ‘Envelope Professional’, and ‘Multi Family BA’’.

Popescu explained, “BPI develops standards for energy efficiency retrofit work. From these standards, they developed professional credentials for individuals and accreditation for contracting companies – including quality assurance programs. I now offer these added credentials to all of my clients.”  The Department of Energy and the NREL (National Renewable Energy Laboratory) worked together with BPI to develop new National Standards for the Home Performance Industry.

The Certification program offered via BPI has earned an ISO Accreditation for Advanced HEP (Home Energy Professionals) Certifications. ISO 17024 is the global benchmark for personnel certifications across all industries, designed to ensure that certifications are developed in a consistent, comparable and impartial manner.

“ISO 17024-accredited certifications provide an important measure of quality assurance to employers, to programs and to consumers by verifying competency of the worker-their ability to do the job right,” said Dr. Richard Knaub, project leader specializing in workforce development at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.

Among other services, Statewide Home Performance offers a free, home energy audit for any homeowner in Connecticut. An energy audit assesses a home to detect where and how energy is being lost. The audit consists of a complete inspection of all rooms, the attic, the basement, and the crawl spaces.

After completing the home energy audit, an analysis of the data and a report are prepared for the home-owner to review. The report identifies current energy consumption levels, measures for improved home performance, provides the itemized cost of the project, the yearly energy savings, and an estimated return on investment.

“In every case, a home owner will see a minimum of 20 to 25% in annual home-energy savings,” adds Popescu, “considerably better than most other investments they will ever make.”
