Ii Kanji is releasing their new video on youtube the “No Pants Dance,” and it is amazing. This worldwide hip hop group is a collection of MCS ranging from across the United States with a collaborative MC from Tokyo, Japan. The song is a play on a typical rap, dance track with a catchy chorus that has been stuck in my head for days now. The Colorado rap itself is as fluid as the unfolding beat and keeps me glued to the screen while the four rappers open a musical and visual journey which is laugh out loud beginning to end.
The music video is five minutes of absolute chaos and fun as the group begins to show how the serious raps are really about a not so serious topic. While most rap videos would make you assume that there would be scantly clad dancing girls in them, this video only contains males dancing in their boxers with a surprise groin censored dancing panda. Each rappers’ verse transitions from one to another giving a second for you to catch your breath until they once again have a surprising pelvic shot or tuxedo wearing dog to leave you laughing until the next rapper appears.
This Colorado hip hop troupe has combined the finest musicians from the Denver area and have termed their music both “anime rap” and “worldwide rap” to encompass their influences from both Japanese J-Pop Culture and worldwide hip hop flavors. The group is Producer/singer Lil’ Bangohan, rapper Ben-Kei, rapper CYPH, and Japanese rapper CHIBO. The group met while in College and joined forces together after using the chance to create a rap video for their Japanese class instead of creating a real project.
While the core of Ii Kanji is very lighthearted, the music is intricate and ornately designed with each rapper containing their own unique flair and cleverly written lyrical prowess to flow throughout each track. This combination of orchestral worthy beats and raw lyricism gives listeners a reason to relisten to every track multiple times to fully encompass the intricacies created in all of the songs. Ii Kanji is fun and easy to listen to but at the same time has enough depth of musical material that I do not get bored of the tracks after a couple listens.
This worldwide, Colorado hip hop group is mesmerizing and their video is another ode to great rap and just plain awesome music. Take five minutes out of your day to check out the “No Pants Dance” and you will surely not regret it.
