(Newswire.net — December 4, 2013) New York, New York —
Victor Lin is a talent on today’s jazz scene with style, depth, passion, artistry and panache. Classically trained with a jazz soul, he is one of the new kids on the block who can hold his own in any musical terrain.
As an educator and performer, Mr. Lin is active on the New York jazz scene in both the concert halls and the nightclubs. As a jazz pianist and violinist, he holds an undergraduate music degree from the University of Washington and a masters degree from Rutgers University, where he studied with Kenny Barron. He is currently finishing his doctorate in music education at Columbia University Teachers College, where he teaches jazz piano and jazz ensembles.
With a deft hand, Victor Lin holds true to the jazz tradition. Whether playing standards, boogie woogie, stride, modal, the blues or more modern harmonies, Mr. Lin keeps the vocabulary true with impeccable time and gifted sensibility. Since his arrival in New York he has performed in a wide and eclectic variety of contexts. As a pianist, he has performed at Lincoln Center “Out Of Doors”, Bryant Park’s “Piano Series” and recently featured in Jack Kliensinger’s “Highlights In Jazz” Series at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center.
Along with his pianistic skills, Mr. Lin also is known through Frank Vignols’s Hot Club USA and The Howard Fishman Quartet as a violinist of depth and dimension. Aside from the performance aspect of Mr. Lin’s career, education is a also a primary focus. On the faculty of the jazz program at The Calhoun School on the Upper West Side of NYC, the prestigious Stanford Jazz Workshop and the Mark O’Connor Fiddle Camp, he continues to be inspired to teach music and improve the social outreach that music creates.
As an American-born child of Taiwanese parents, Lin has a multi-cultural view on race, society, culture and music that gives him a unique vantage point as both performer and educator. He is focused on exploring and communicating through music, our ever expanding cultural revolutions. You can hear his music on his website: www.victorlin.net
This performance features Kevin Farrell on bass and Jimmy Macbride on drums, two musicians with eclectic musical tastes who travel freely from bop to electronica to traditional jazz and then back again. It will no doubt engage and entertain all who attend.
