Atheists have a bit of a stigma attached to them that makes it seem as though the community will blindly follow any scientific advances. Nevertheless, many within the secular world can be quite critical of certain discoveries or practices, which is demonstrated in this quarter’s issue of The Celestial Teapot in the article “The Future of Reproduction” by the magazine’s creative director and founder Jeff Ridout.

Having been described as a magazine for secularists that does not worry about debunking religion, The Celestial Teapot regularly releases articles for both the magazine and its corresponding website that discuss relevant news and goings-on that would interest the nontheistic population, including the discussion on reproductive medical techniques and highlighting questionable practices that can -and have- occurred because of them.

“The Future of Reproduction” can be found in issue 4 of The Celestial Teapot, which was released digitally on October 1, 2013 and has a theme of Aldous Huxley’s book, Brave New World. Those interested in more examples of skepticism around scientific discoveries and uses should also look into issue 3, when the theme was “The good, the bad and the ugly” from the science world.

Issues and subscriptions to the digital-only magazine can be purchased through the website www.celestialteapotmagazine.com where numerous blog posts centered around the secular population’s interests can be found and is updated regularly. Along with articles and blog posts, visitors to the site can also watch The Celestial Teapot videos and learn more about the magazine’s core staff.

When asked about the difference between The Celestial Teapot and other secular-based periodicals and websites, Developmental Strategist and parenting columnist Donald Herrera Fairbairn said, “We are more interested in building and informing a community of individuals than attempting to pat the backs of those who agree with anything an atheist might say in a public forum.” The ‘Raising Reason’ columnist continued, “There’s a whole lot more to the humanist and atheist community than attempting to disprove something we already don’t believe in, and that’s where The Celestial Teapot steps in. Like [Jeff Ridout’s] article shows, we’re not going to sit around and blindly accept anything. Whether it comes from science or God or man, everything must be looked at through a lens of questioning curiosity.”
