(Newswire.net — January 14, 2014) Denver, Colorado — The march begins the morning of January 20th at 9:00. Participants will gather at 8:30 and will march in the “Marade” from City Park, at 2100 Steele Street, to Civic Center Park for a rally to commemorate the slain Civil Rights leader’s life and legacy. The 5K parade/march will culminate with the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. program at Civic Center Park’s Greek Theater.
Event planners promise the march will proceed even in inclement weather; a small sacrifice, in light of the sacrifice of the one for whom the marade is held. Dr. Martin Luther King denied himself and linked arms with other sacrificial Americans who were willing to be denied the basic comforts of human decency, in order to achieve it for others. Together and resolutely, Dr. King and those honored to weather the waves of indecency with him, paraded unheralded on southern streets and towns where he was spat upon, thrown into jail and eventually murdered.
Dr. King must have realized the potential danger he was risking to himself, but he had a dream; a dream that he obviously believed was worth denying himself the comforts of staying home with his wife and little ones. The dream became his calling and he marched on. His dream became our reality.
Kenneth Michaels, Pastor of the Church @ Thornton recently spoke on the doctrine from Scripture, which demands denial of self. Jesus said, in Matthew 16:24, 25- “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it…”
According to Pastor Kenneth Michaels, “God gives most of us a daily opportunity to deny ourselves, to get rid of our selfishness or self preservation [and] to include more people- to love them as ourselves…we need one another to continue to move forward-we are building one another up because we need one another…The Baptist Church and the Methodist Church around the corner, I need them…and they need me…We can come into the fullness of Christ together and then the world begins to believe that God sent Jesus.”
The Church @ Thornton would like you to know, that you are wanted and needed. You are invited to join the pastor and congregation for worship, Sunday mornings at 10:00 and for prayer each Tuesday evening at 6:30.
