On Monday, February 24, 2014, in Barcelona at the Mobile World Congress expo, Samsung revealed the new Galaxy S5, which will be available starting April 11 all over the world. The Galaxy S5 has included plenty of new features to the phone. Although there are some new functions in the S5, Samsung hasn’t made a huge change from the S4.

The new Galaxy S5 now has plenty of new features. The first is an upgrade on the camera. In the Galaxy S4, it had a 13megapixel camera. In the S5, it includes an advanced 16 megapixel camera in the back, and a 2 megapixel camera in the front. The phone also has a new reflector-integrated flash LED. It can take better daytime and nighttime photos, it allows for a wider field of view, and will ensure everyone in a photo is illuminated the flash. Below the camera in the back is a heat sensitive heartbeat sensor. The sensor is linked to the S Health app feature, which tracks your fitness.

Of course, there is also fingerprint scanner that not only allows you to unlock your phone, but it can be used to confirm your identity with apps like Paypal. There’s also a Kids Mode, and Easy Mode, which makes the phone easier to use for older people. One key feature is the Ultra Power Saving Mode. In this mode, the phone’s screen goes black and white and displays a few icons, extending the battery life.

Aside from the new features, the phone takes the S4 and simplifies it a bit, making it more user friendly. Unlike the S4, the S5 is not overloaded with some S-branded features. Rather, Samsung has decided to polish the features that they included. Gareth Beavis of Tech Radar says, “The Galaxy S5 takes the DNA of the S4 and improves on it in most areas.” One spec that the Galaxy S5 has improved upon is the minimal TouchWiz interface. It is smoother and easier to use. It may not have as many apps and features, but it is simpler and easier to use.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 will be launched on April 11 in 150 countries. It will cost about $650 and will be available in 4 different colors – Charcoal Black, Shimmery White, Electric Blue and Copper Gold. It may not impress customers because it’s like of software overload, but the phone is sure to wow users who want an easy to use phone.
