(Newswire.net — March 18, 2014) Singapore, Singapore — The College Board, which oversees the reputable Advanced Placement exams, sent a letter to Singapore American School (SAS) Superintendent Chip Kimball congratulating him on SAS’s distinguished performance.
Singapore American School is one of the top international schools in Singapore.
The SAS Advanced Placement program continues to differentiate itself from other private schools in Singapore and worldwide. Specifically, SAS was recognized for having the highest AP Biology scores in the world and is in the top 1% of schools worldwide, including the United States, in the number and percentage of students earning a 3 (out of 5) or higher on at least one AP exam. Fifty-five percent of SAS students received a 5 (out of 5 possible), as compared to 5% of the students worldwide. A score of 3 earns students college credit for courses that they take in high school.
Principal Dr. Tim Stuart said, “I am very proud of our students. They study extremely hard to be prepared for the AP exams. In addition to their great scores [compared to other students worldwide] they are also amazing, down-to-earth, well-rounded students.”
SAS offers more Advanced Placement exams (29) than any other school outside of the United States. These courses include AP Calculus I & II, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, American History, Spanish Literature & Culture, French Language & Culture, Chinese Language & Culture, English Language & Composition, English Literature, Statistics and more.
SAS was recently chosen to be one of the 130 schools worldwide (of 10,000) to take part in the initial roll out of their new AP Capstone Diploma program due to its exceptional capacity and historical success. The AP Capstone Diploma is the College Board’s first truly skills-based interdisciplinary learning experience where students focus on and research highly relevant topics in order to rigorously develop 21st century skills. Current SAS sophomores can participate in the program by signing up for the AP Seminar Course for the 2014-15 school year.
Established in 1956, the school primarily serves the American and international expatriate communities of Singapore. SAS is registered with the Singapore Council for Private Education, affiliated with the Office of Overseas Schools through the U.S. Department of State, and is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
