The founder of Bespoke Prints, Tamara Brooks, originally selected Marketing Hospital to develop a new direct marketing strategy for the online art prints retailer. The Client’s goal in general was to encourage new and existing customers to purchase more products.
“When Tamara explained her marketing efforts and objectives to me during our diagnostic process, I immediately spotted a common hole in her sales funnel,” said Marketing Hospital’s Chief of Staff, Grant Pasay. “In short, she wasn’t making another offer right after her customers had made a purchase.”
Pasay explained that customers who have already decided to make a purchase are more psychologically predisposed to making a subsequent purchase than are other prospects or customers. In turn, one of the most effective times for a company to present an offer to customers is immediately after they have made a purchase with that company. Such offers are known as bounce back offers, and their related sales are known as bounce back sales.
“I wasn’t doing anything at all actually to encourage a bounce back sale,” said Brooks. “I wasn’t maximizing the potential repeat business from previous customers.”

Marketing Hospital developed the direct response strategy and content for the bounce back offer, which included persuasive copy for a lift letter, which is a short note included when a product is delivered to reinforce the customer’s purchase decision. The strategy also included a time-limited bounce back coupon, and a split testing system designed to compare the sales conversion rates of different limited-time-offer ranges.
After implementing the bounce back offer that Marketing Hospital prescribed and developed, Brooks saw an immediate increase in her revenues of 4.9%.
