Side Effects May Include Death or Worse

( — May 24, 2014) Portland, OR — Drugs that doctors prescribe may be causing more problems than are being cured. Here are just a few examples you might not have heard about.

There is a diabetes drug that causes yeast infections and urinary tract infections. It also seems to raise cholesterol levels, especially the LDL or bad kind. It seems scary to take a medication like that when studies are showing that cinnamon and garlic can be as effective in controlling blood sugar levels.

Cold medicines often cause allergic reactions, sleepiness or insomnia, nausea and constipation, especially when given to children. Just as effective is garlic, raw honey and lemon, and chicken soup.

Many medications have been attributed to the causation of stroke? These include over the counter medications, especially for colds, contain caffeine. It isn’t just the caffeine that causes the strokes, but the way they interact with the chemicals they are paired with. Without the chemicals moderate intake of caffeine actually lowers your chance of having a stroke.

There is an erectile dysfunction medication that causes blue-green blindness.

A popular antibiotic and cause deadly heart arrhythmias. Another group of antibiotics carry the risk for permanent peripheral neuropathy. This means pain, burning, tingling, numbness, and or weakness in legs, arms, hands or feet. They also damage the tendons in the body, leading to ruptures. Many essential oils and colloidal silver can be just as effective, if not more so, without risking your life. Bacteria are not becoming resistant to these natural antibiotics like they are to the chemical ones.

Statin drugs are taken to lower cholesterol, but they also damage muscle cells, including the ones in the heart. Turmeric extract can be just as effective, without the side effect. Another effect of statins is memory or cognitive ability. This has huge implications when we look at the almost epidemic proportions of Alzheimer’s and dementia in our elderly populations.

Chemotherapy drugs are known to have a huge list of side effects, but a study is showing that curcumin works just as well on some types of cancer.

Chronic fatigue may actually be caused by your medications. Types of medications whose side effects mimic chronic fatigue are blood pressure, statins, anxiety medications, acid reflux medications, antihistamines, antipsychotics, antidepressants, antibiotics, and diuretics.

Those same antipsychotics can also trigger diabetes. This is three times more prevalent in children than adults. It can happen within six months of starting the drugs. The biggest problem is that these are given to people to prevent suicides, but in reality they often increase the likelihood of suicide, as well as the violence associated with that action.

A popular over the counter pain reliever and fever reducer that most of us give our children is the leading cause of liver failure, even at recommended dosages.

Many doctors prescribe an aspirin a day to their patients over fifty, even if they have no health problems. This habit is increasing the occurrence of macular degeneration in these people.

Prescription pain patches have become the rage because people don’t have to remember to take a pill. But, small children that accidentally come into contact with them are dying from it. Even adults are dying from it, including the ones that it is prescribed for. Antidepressants can increase violent behavior as well as worsen the depression. Why would anyone want to take any drug that can make their symptoms worse as a side effect? This is especially confusing when the natural methods of fighting depression are fairly straightforward. They include eliminating sugars, grains and food additives (processed foods). They also include adding probiotics and/or fermented foods, B12, Vitamin D, and omega 3 fatty acids. These are all life affirming actions instead of life threatening.

These are just a few of the modern medicines and the harm they do to those that take them. Every pharmaceutical and even every food has effects. It is called a side effect when the purpose of taking them or eating them is different that the effect get. The question is whether that effect is positive or negative as well as how strong that is. Good side effects improve the overall quality of life.
