Best Volunteer Book Award Winner

‘UNSUNG HEROES CAMBODIA: People and Projects Making A Difference’ Has Recently Been Officially Given the Title of Best Book on Volunteering in Cambodia.

 Volunteers from around the world were asked to nominate which books they recommended for volunteers to read in a web-base poll. While many books were put forward, the overwhelming majority of respondents included ‘Unsung Heroes Cambodia‘ as a “Best Book for Volunteers.” Furthermore the book was clear winner in the subcategory of the “Best Book for Volunteers in Cambodia.”

 Co-author and founder of the project, Lee Anderson, stated, “This award comes as a very nice surprise … which is unexpected but most appreciated.” The book ‘Unsung Heroes Cambodia: People and Project Making a Difference’ is a unique book that both celebrates volunteers and provides insightful education. 

 From the estimated 3,000 NGOs working in Cambodia today, this book singles out a selection of 40 NGOs from areas different geographically as well as area of focus. From basic human needs such as food, water and shelter to healthcare, education, sustainable business and the arts. It covers the wide range of work  that is helping Cambodia recover from the atrocities of the Khmer Rouge.

 The feature stories on each volunteer or project are inspiring as well as educational. Volunteers and potential volunteers will learn more about the complexities and ethical dilemmas involved in volunteering abroad, as well as how to avoid them.

 The survey, conducted amongst a small group of volunteers living in Europe, North America, Australia, and Southeast Asia resulted in exceptionally high ratings for the book in the following Categories:

Information for Volunteers,

Education about Cambodia, and

Education for Volunteers.

 In addition, ‘Unsung Heroes Cambodia’ received Very Good ratings for Travel Photography and Motivation.

 Projects range from large multinational organizations to single person start-ups.
