Water Damage from Down Pour in Northern Utah

(Newswire.net — August 22, 2014) Centerville, Utah — Residents along the Wasatch Front were subjected to water damage from recent heavy rainstorms. Rainfall was heavy in the entire valley; however, the heaviest rainfall was centered between West Murray and South Jordan. There were reports of flooded basements as far south as Provo related to the rain storms. Local meteorologists were reporting that up to an inch of rain had fallen in some areas in less than 30 minutes, overwhelming storm drains and overflowing canals.

Alex Colon, from The Flood Company, said “I received many phone calls from customers starting around 4:00 AM, reporting everything from leaky roofs to water coming in through their window wells. I think we’re going to be very busy today.”

One subdivision in West Jordan, near the intersection of 7000 S and 3200 W, was built with homes having driveways that sloped negatively (towards the home). Building codes have since been updated which do not allow these types of driveways; however, in just one subdivision, there were 17 homes with this style driveway reporting water in their basement.

To help begin the cleanup, local fire departments went door-to-door, offering to help pump out water from affected basements and driveways. Disaster cleanup crews will be busy cleaning up the mess from this disaster for weeks. Thankfully, there have been no reports of injuries at this time.

Water damage can be frustrating. The best course of action is to contact a restoration company and begin the drying process as soon as possible. Water damage does not have to be stressful. Contacting the right restoration company can remove the stress from a disaster and let you focus on healing your family while your home is repaired.
