(Newswire.net — September 1, 2014) — The trove first appeared on 4chan’s thread earlier today, and it includes Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence and several others.
Nude photos of “Hunger Games” star Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande and Kirsten Dunst, among many others, leaked online Sunday morning presumed one of the biggest celebrity hacking scandals in recent history.
A spokesperson for Lawrence confirmed the photos were real and blasted the hackers for their “flagrant violation of privacy”. A few of the photos show what appears to be Lawrence in various bathing suits, but others are fully nude.
“The authorities have been contacted and will prosecute anyone who posts the stolen photos of Jennifer Lawrence,” her representative warned.
Final Destination actress Mary Winstead – one of those who’s photos were leaked – mentions that her images were deleted a while ago.
This raises the question of whether or not a deleted iCloud photo is ever truly deleted.
“I can only imagine the creepy effort that went into this. Feeling for everyone who got hacked,” she commented on Twitter.
4Chan allow users to anonymously post photos and videos, as well as commenting on others posts.
Originally launched in 2003, the site is split into various boards, each with its own specific content from video games and music to photography and snaps of celebrities such as Jennifer Lawrence.
Apple has been criticized for iCloud’s security multiple times in the past, and an attack did take down its developer center for several weeks last summer. If the reports are true, what a terrible time for bad PR, just ahead of next month’s iPhone event.
