(Newswire.net — December 17, 2014)  — Scott Tucker, local retiree and community enthusiast, has announced that he is in the beginning stages of creating a public vegetable garden for his hometown peers. After a four-week effort, the garden will be accessible for common use. According to Tucker, the land was purchased at a very reasonable price through the local township.

“Now that I’m retired, I want to do something good for the community that will be appreciated by everyone,” said Scott Tucker. “The plot that I just recently acquired is some of the richest soil that I’ve seen in this area; crops are really going to thrive here.”

Tucker’s garden is located on a one acre plot, and will be comprised of equally sized rectangular raised beds. Each bed will be assigned a number, and then posted to the township website for residents to select. There will be a $10 annual fee for each bed, which covers daily watering and monthly fertilization. There will be a one bed per resident rule. Depending on the amount of participation, gardeners can enter a raffle in the event of leftover beds.

“The community is very excited for gardening season this year,” said Martha Willis, neighbor of Scott Tucker. “Once spring rolls around you can bet we’ll all be seeding our new garden beds. Scott’s always doing great deeds for environment, and now he’s doing it for us!”

Scott Tucker is working on building the remaining raised beds, creating a fertile soil mix, and is beginning preparations to fence in the perimeter of the garden. Residents are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible to guarantee a bed this spring.
