Kale that is grown for fujiKale is nurtured in the rich soils of Shimane Prefecture, on the main island of Honshu, in southern Japan where the climate is as follows.

• The area has a humid subtropical climate and it has hot humid summers and relatively mild winters. The area also sees on average about 1,600 mm (63 in) of precipitation per year, with a stretch of more intense precipitation between the months of June and September. Its average temperature is 16.3 °C (61 °F), 70% humidity. Roughly 40% of the year is cloudy.
• Winter temperatures rarely drop below freezing (0 °C, 32 °F) and it rarely snows. Spring is warm and sunnier. Summer is hot and humid. Autumn is mild and dry.
