(Newswire.net — June 2, 2015) Melbourne, Victoria — Each year, about 6.7% of U.S. adults are diagnosed with a major depressive disorder. The largest segment of those affected are women who are 70% more likely than men to be diagnosed within their lifetime. The average onset age for depression to be experienced is thirty-two years old. Notably, 3.3% of those impacted are thirteen to eighteen years.

Depression can take many forms, including major depression, persistent depressive disorder, and bipolar disorder. Major depression can affect one’s ability to work, sleep, study, eat, and enjoy life. While there are as many theories as there are experts, there is no known cause for depression as of yet. Some types of depression are known to run in families, suggesting a genetic link.

The primary treatments for depression include drugs and therapy.

The majority of drugs act as antidepressants, which affect the neurotransmitters in the brain. These drugs adjust the levels of serotonin and norepinephrine; the brain chemicals that regulate mood.

Psychotherapy is the other popular treatment. There are two main types of psychotherapies: cognitive-behavioural therapy and interpersonal therapy.

Cognitive-behavioural therapy works to restructure negative thought patterns, helping people with depression interpret their environment and interactions with others in a positive way. Interpersonal therapy helps people understand and work through their troubled relationships which may be making their depression worse.

Beverly Searle, owner of Forget Talking Therapy, has developed a new treatment that holds great promise.

Beverly’s methodology focuses on neuropsychological theories as they relate to memory storage and retrieval of traumatic events held in the Limbic system. The Limbic system does not have language, so to be able to access and heal your traumas/adversities you need to use visualization, this Searle utilizes in her therapy. But the crux of this work is being able to meet and heal the parts of you (your sub-personalities) who hold all these negative memories and emotions.

Beverly SearleYou can meet the little ‘you’ who was bullied, abused or witnessed negative events and take them out of the situation and give them their hearts desire.  “Rewiring our brain is not the same thing as positive thinking or conscious-based therapy. Like a computer, the operation system, or subconscious beliefs in our brain must be rebooted. It is only with this new and upgraded operating system where fast and permanent change can treat and often eliminate depression,” Said Searle.

“This therapy helps to remove “the memory of a person’s trauma and/or adversity. We’ve used it successfully for veterans, post-partum mothers and teenagers,” Searle stated.

Her eight step formula has been used extensively in Australia where Searle resides. She is launching a self-guided program that has proven successful.

The program can be used to lessen the effects of a multitude of illnesses including depression, anxiety disorders, self-injurers, post-traumatic stress disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders, and eating disorders.

Globally, depression affects millions of people. Searle’s system has shown great promise in a wide cross section of disorders. While there are no guarantees it will work for everyone, unlike drugs, there are no side effects and unlike traditional therapy, the investment is amazingly affordable.

Simply “thinking” yourself well may not be as far-fetched as it seems. Scientists have known for years that the placebo effect, where our brain tells the body to heal itself, often has equal efficacy as medicine. Perhaps the same can be true for depression.
