AES Urges Electrical Safety in the Wake of Texas Floods

(Newswire.net — June 15, 2015) Arlington, TEXAS — A first-class electrical repair and remodel contractor in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, Accurate Electrical Systems aims to raise awareness of safety during the recent historic flooding. In May, enough rain fell to cover all of Texas in eight inches of water, experts say. Homes and roads throughout Dallas-Fort Worth have been flooded, creating numerous hazards. One which AES is most concerned with is electrical safety as floodwaters have left serious damage.

Downed power lines and submerged electrical equipment pose an electrocution threat even if someone does not touch them. Electricity can be conducted some distance in water. Road signs, light poles, and other metal objects have broken loose and remain submerged, and are also conductors of electricity. “In any flooded area, it is critical not to come in contact with submerged objects and avoid areas where live electricity may be present,” said Maggie Smith, President of AES.

In addition to avoiding flooded and submerged areas where possible, be sure to:

  • Avoid using electrical outlets, lighting, and appliances that have been exposed to water until a licensed contractor looks at them.
  • Have any electronic device that’s been wet or submerged repaired, discarded, or replaced by a professional.
  • Not touch any exposed wiring, as it could be live even if it seems torn or disconnected.
  • Don’t go into a flood damaged or water-filled basement unless a licensed electrical contractor has given the OK, and has removed the electrical meter. This disconnects all electricity and eliminates the chances of being electrocuted.
  • Never go inside a flooded home or building alone, even if the electricity has been turned off.

“The ‘A Team’ is fully licensed, bonded, and insured,” Smith adds. “We’ll conduct any assessments of electrical safety and perform rewiring and remodels to restore the property back to its original function. The recent flooding has been extensive and devastating, but Accurate Electrical Systems is ready to restore service and improve safety.”

The “A-Team” has the knowledge and experience to handle any job, of any size. It is capable of assessing homes, businesses, and electrical components and appliances in any flood-damaged property. A Woman-Owned Business Enterprise, it can affordably provide prompt service and repairs. If the neighborhood power is off, the company can even provide generators for as low as $750.
