(Newswire.net — February 5, 2016) –Julian Assange has been at the Embassy of Ecuador in London since December of 2010. UN seeks to end his asylum.
Official UN panel announced, also, that the founder of the portal WikiLeaks is entitled to a compensation.
Assange was took refuge in Ecuador’s embassy in Britain to avoid extradition to Sweden, because he was accused of sexual abuse. The Swedish prosecution also wants to question him over accusations of rape when he was in that country in 2010.
During that period WikiLeaks attracted great attention by publishing classified documents from the archives of the United States, Great Britain and other countries, reports the AP.
Assange denies the allegations, but refused to return
to Sweden for questioning.
The Swedish government and the United Kingdom also, has rejected the conclusions of the UN panel that Assange was illegal detained. The UK claims that Assange avoid lawful arrest.
In front of the Embassy of Ecuador in London gathered citizens seeking the release of Assange. He is still insade the buildings and via video-conferencing he was answered of journalists questions.
According to Julian Assange, the UN decision is justified.
Assange said that United Kingdom and Sweden can not appeal the decision of the UN panel, but the Reuters reports that United Kingdom has already announced that they will appeal.
Assange’s lawyer Jennifer Robinson said on Friday that the UN decision is undoubted victory for Assange.
In September 2014 founder of the portal WikiLeaks filed a lawsuit to UN against Sweden and the United Kingdom, because of the detention. Assange could not leave the embassy of Ecuador in London, he he would be arrested immediately.
In June 2012, he asked political asylum in Ecuador’s embassy in London to avoid extradition to Sweden. Assange believes that Sweden will extradite him to United States, where he was charged for publishing on the portal WikiLeaks the thousands of secret documents from US authorities.
