(Newswire.net — May 31, 2016) — When deciding who to vote for in the upcoming Presidential elections, it’s crucial to know exactly what each candidate stands for and the main differences between them. With Bernie Sanders, Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump representing their respective parties in the run-up to the election, one of them is inevitably going to be voted as the next President of the United States. Assuming that you don’t want to build a wall around the U.S.A. and make the Mexicans pay for it – leaving voting for Trump out of the question, you’re left with two choices: Sanders or Clinton? We’ve listed some of the main differences between the two to help you decide which one of them deserves your vote.

Sanders VS. Clinton: The Death Penalty

Although – hopefully – this will not affect you directly, the death penalty is one issue which many American citizens feel strongly about. With the majority of Western countries having abolished the death penalty decades ago, certain states in the U.S.A. are some of the last remaining areas in the Western world to execute convicted criminals. Whether or not you agree with the death penalty is an issue which could sway your vote to either Sanders or Clinton. Whilst Clinton agrees with the death penalty in ‘certain circumstances’ as a punishment for ‘very limited, particularly heinous crimes’, Sanders believes that the practice is outdated and worries that too many innocent people, particularly minorities, have been wrongfully executed due to it. Debating the matter, Sanders said that he does not want to see the government being part of the killing.

Sanders VS. Clinton: LGBT Rights

When it comes to supporting the rights of the LGBT community, there are both similarities and differences between Bernie Sanders and Hilary Clinton. Sanders has long displayed a huge commitment to supporting LGBT rights, but admits that there is still a lot of work to be done in order to improve the issues faced by this community. If he is elected, Sanders promises to make discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender illegal, as well as support gay marriage and parenthood and work to decrease LGBT suicide numbers. Although Clinton mirrors many of Sanders’ promises, it’s important to realize that whilst Sanders has been consistent in his support of the LGBT community, Clinton has not.

Sanders VS. Clinton: Marijuana Use

Recent legislations have made the use of medical marijuana legal in certain U.S. states, whilst in other states it’s also perfectly within the law to use marijuana recreationally. Since this legislation was passed, many Americans have been able to enjoy the benefits of the herb and locate medical marijuana dispensaries where they can buy the now-legal drug to help treat symptoms of a range of conditions such as anxiety, chronic pain and some cancers to name just a few. Whereas Sanders introduced a bill in November to decriminalize marijuana on a federal level, Clinton has been fairly hesitant to speak out on the matter, but agrees that the drug should be reclassified in order to allow research on medical marijuana.
