(Newswire.net — September 30, 2016) Jupiter, Florida –Christopher Saltzburg, also known as Chris Saltzburg, continues to promote pedestrian and bike safety in the town of Jupiter in Palm Beach County, Florida, by installing center crosswalk signs in different locations. A premier sales professional serving the healthcare industry, he is an influential member of Jupiter Walk and Bike, a group of citizens who work on improving safety and access for pedestrians and cyclists in Jupiter. The group’s first initiative is to install center crosswalk signs at key crosswalk around the town.

“The Town of Jupiter has done a great job creating infrastructure to promote safety and access for pedestrians and bicyclists,” says Chris. “Our group sees an opportunity to considerably improve those efforts by installing low-cost and highly effective center crosswalk signs.”

According to Chris, the group continues to install center crosswalk signs because they are proven to be extremely efficient. “Our personal observation as well as traffic studies reveal that these signs change the dynamic of a crosswalk in a very positive way.” Discover more about his career by visiting: https://www.linkedin.com/in/christophersaltzburg.

Pedestrians on the corner usually wait to see if a stopped driver will wave them across the crosswalk. Unfortunately, this rarely works for them. However, center crosswalk signs make it clear that drivers must yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk. This then changes the behavior of both drivers and pedestrians accordingly.

After installing center signs at Frederick Small & Stadium and Maplewood & Pinetree, the group observed that the dynamic of the intersection had changed. Pedestrians now feel confident about entering the crosswalk. Cars slow as they approach the crosswalk, and stop further back from the crosswalk. They even stop without pedestrians. These observations, along with the results of the study conducted on the campus of Michigan State University, prove the effectiveness of crosswalk signs.

Michigan State University used to have a long-term crosswalk safety problem on campus. Drivers were not yielding to pedestrians in crosswalks, causing accidents and near misses. What alleviated this problem was the installation of yellow triangular “Yield to Pedestrian” signs at each crosswalk. After placing these signs, the number of vehicles stopping to yield to crossing pedestrians significantly increased. The researchers also temporarily removed the signs to see if it would change anything. According to them, removing the signs caused the crosswalks to revert back to their original state.

“It’s hard to foresee accidents,” Christopher adds, “but there are ways to prevent them. And when it comes to preventing traffic accidents, installing center crosswalk signs is definitely one of them.” To learn more about Chris, visit: http://www.fotoblur.com/people/christsaltzburg
