(Newswire.net — November 4, 2016) Darien, CONNECTICUT — Today over 50,000 runners will converge on the Verrazano- Narrows Bridge to start the New York City Marathon. A few will be sidelined with crippling pain known as Achilles Tendinitis. The gastrocnemius and soleus muscles (calf muscles) join into one band of tissue, which becomes the Achilles tendon behind the ankle. The Achilles tendon attaches the calf muscles to the heel. It is the strongest tendon in the body but with excessive wear and tear it can degenerate. The severity of the problem runs from mild discomfort to complete separation. Serious runner’s are well advised to stretch before and after a workout.

However all the stretching in the world may not help avoid Achilles tendinitis. There have been several new approachs to treating tendinitis that  offer significant relief and can prevent more serious consequences like a complete tear. The use of Cold Laser has been helpful in firing up the cell’s ability to regenerate tissue. Cold Laser therapy when combined with a soft tissue technique called Graston offers greater results in treating Achilles Tendinitis. Graston technique involves using a surgical grade stainless steel tool to abrade adhesions that form in the tendon. The adhesions prevent normal mobility causing pain that can lead to micro tears and even complete tears of the Achilles. The Graston Tool will erase the adhesion with some discomfort. The stage is now set so when Cold Laser is applied to the abraded cells on the Achilles Tendon they grow back without the painful adhesions.

Both Cold Laser and Graston offer significant pain improvements when cortisone, splinting and Nsaid therapy fail to address the problem.
