Check Cockroaches out of Your Hotel

(Newswire.net — January 24, 2017) — Nothing can ruin a hotel stay like cockroaches in the beds or the refrigerator, but there are several ways you can deal with these creatures so that your hotel remains clean and healthy. Sometimes, all it takes to make cockroaches leave is regular waste disposal and a thorough cleaning of each room so that there aren’t any food particles. Still, cockroaches can infest your place no matter how orderly you are, especially if you live in a humid climate.

Blocking Entry

Before checking out your cockroaches, the first thing to do is to prevent any more from checking in. If the landscaping around your building has dirt or mulch, it’s probably damp most of the time: an attractive feature to cockroaches. Look for cracks in the exterior and caulk them up. You can also spray insecticides across the perimeter of your hotel, but the use of aerosol sprays is not recommended because, even though they may attack the roaches in your crevices, they’re a health hazard. Do not use insecticides in the building’s interior.

Traps

One of the safest methods for exterminating cockroaches is to place cockroach traps outside and inside each room. These will attract the roaches and keep them stuck inside with an adhesive. The downside is that, in a hotel room, they can be conspicuous and are more than likely off-putting to occupants. Placing them under the beds or behind the dresser is advisable, though.

Baits

Cockroach bait is another option and usually comes in two varieties, as food in a small plastic case and as a gel. Like with the traps, a case of bait will easily be spotted by occupants. More importantly, bait can be dangerously within reach of children and pets. The gel is ideal: it’s unobtrusive and can be applied directly to cracks and crevices in the walls, floors and baseboards of each room.

Whichever form you use, bait is more effective than a trap because cockroaches take the bait back to their nest; in other words, it treats the problem at its source. On the other hand, bait can quickly become stale and unappealing. If you use bait outside, know that it should never be used in conjunction with insecticides because one will counteract the other.

Calling in the Professionals

There are other extermination methods, but they tend to be hit-and-miss or, at worst, effective only in myth. For example, spraying soap and water on cockroaches is said to kill them, but this is highly debatable. Others, like the application of boric acid, can be complicated and messy. In extreme cases of roach infestation, call your local pest control professionals like UltraPro Pest Protection, even if this means closing down part of the hotel temporarily.
