(Newswire.net — April 5, 2017) Jamaica, New York — Long known for its humanitarian work for the people of Guyana, New York-based property development company, Zara Realty Holding Corporation, recently embarked on a project with the Guyana Police Force (GPF). The project, hailed as an ideal public-private partnership, recommissioned the Zara Cyber Security Centre at the Felix Austin Training College in Georgetown, Guyana. The Centre is valued at $20.5 million and is designed to give the GPF enhanced abilities to fight cybercrime in the country. The launch of the Security Centre realizes a long-standing collaboration between Zara and the GPF. “Emerging computer threats in Guyana made the launch of the Centre especially important,” says George Subraj, a native of Guyana and the President of the housing firm behind the project. “It will provide both capacity and capability in fighting computer-based crimes.” To learn more about the project and the Centre’s mission, visit http://gina.gov.gy/gpf-launches-zara-cyber-security-centre-lauded-as-exemplary-publicprivate-partnership/.

Cybercrime enforcement has lagged with the absence of legislation on the part of the Guyanese government. The GPF has long sought ways to tackle the growing problem, and Zara’s partnership represented a collaborative approach. Since the Centre opened, two ranks of the GPF have already been certified as cybercrime specialists, giving the police force an edge that they were lacking previously. Prior to the launch, the force had sent its personnel overseas to receive valuable training in cybercrime warfare. Zara has also contributed to ongoing police training and community policing relationships over the past several years; two other Zara-sponsored centres are located in Essequibo and Berbice. Combined, these three centres have given comprehensive computer science training to over 1800 adults and nearly 1000 children from communities throughout the country. Close to 1000 officers from the GPF have received Information Technology instruction at the three centres as well.

Zara Realty Holding Corporation, one of several companies in the Zara Group, has established 14 centres in Guyana and in North America. The owners of the company, all Guyanese natives, are passionate about helping their home country with humanitarian partnerships. The Subraj family has sponsored several medical missions to Guyana over the past decade and has donated millions of dollars to provide improved living conditions for residents there. Zara and the Subraj family have been recognized for their humanitarian efforts, most recently as recipients of the Philanthropists of the Year event hosted by the Star Network in Queens, New York.
