The acclaimed actor has come out as gay following allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct.

Rumors have been going around Hollywood for years about Kevin Spacey’s sexual orientation, so many are not surprised that the actor went public and chose to come out as gay.

The timing of this statement is slightly troubling. The statement was released after fellow actor Anthony Rapp shared his story of the two-time Oscar winner making inappropriate sexual advances when Anthony was only 14. Kevin Spacey was 26 at the time and made drunken advances that Rapp described as Spacey “pressing into” him.

Spacey claims “I honestly do not remember the encounter, it would have been over 30 years ago.”

Many have criticized Spacey for trying to dismiss the allegations by hiding behind the fact that he came out as gay.

Since then more stories have surfaced of men being sexually harassed by Spacey.

Tony Montana, a US filmmaker and producer, made claims that the actor groped his crotch in 2003.

Mexican actor Roberto Cavazos said that Kevin Spacey abused his position as artistic director of the Old Vic in London from 2004 until 2015. Cavazos said that Spacey “routinely preyed” on young men who were performing there.

A British barman claims Kevin Spacey flashed his privates to him in a West Sussex hotel in 2010.

An anonymous man, dubbed John by the BBC, was invited to New York to stay in Spacey’s home in the mid 1980-s. ‘John’ was 17 at the time, and after declining to share a bed with the actor he woke up to Spacey lying on him on the sofa.

Netflix caused suspicion by stating that the next season of House of Cards will be the last of the series, and many think the company tried to distance itself from the accused actor. A company representative said the suspension was made “to give us time to review the current situation and to address any concerns of our cast and crew.” This announcement followed only 12 hours after Anthony Rapp’s public statement.

The special Emmy award that Kevin Spacey was planned to receive next month has been revoked by the International TV Academy.
