Diabetics Can Eat Pineapple

(Newswire.net — May 3, 2018) Cheynne, Wyoming — Who doesn’t like pineapple? That sweet yet slightly tangy tropical flavor just carries one’s mind straight to a scenic beach on the north coast of Jamaica. But for diabetics, eating pineapple may seem like an iffy proposition since their condition generally requires them to stay far from sweet or starchy treats. However, there’s good news ahead, pineapple is actually one of the few sweet bits they can safely eat within moderation.

“Pineapple is considered a “medium” fruit on the glycemic index, so you should consume it in small portions,” informs Healthline.com. “A serving of ¾ cup of fresh pineapple has a glycemic index score of 56. If you have diabetes, you can eat pineapple as long as you do so in moderation. You should also balance your pineapple consumption with other foods. If you’re introducing pineapple into your diet for the first time since your diagnosis, you should watch for any changes to your blood sugar levels.”

Being low in carbs and sodium yet high in vitamin C, the pineapple can secure its space on a diabetic’s plate. Fresh or frozen is recommended, not can pineapple juice as its sugar content resulting from processing is rather high and diabetics are facing an insulin deficiency.

“Diabetes mellitus refers to a group of diseases that affect how your body uses blood sugar (glucose). Glucose is vital to your health because it’s an important source of energy for the cells that make up your muscles and tissues. It’s also your brain’s main source of fuel. If you have diabetes, no matter what type, it means you have too much glucose in your blood, although the causes may differ. Too much glucose can lead to serious health problems.”

With the understanding of how too much sugar affects the body when dealing with diabetes it’s also important to note that the body’s internal pH levels are a matter of great as consideration as well. Moreover, diabetics are at an increased risk of becoming too acidic if not mindful of the effects of the food they consume.

“The human body has a particular range of pH that it needs to be at for good health,” explains Diabetes Self-Management, an authoritative and reliable health publisher established since 1983. “The pH is simply a measure of acid-base balance in the body. A pH of 0 is very acidic, 7 is neutral, and a 14 is very alkaline. In normal situations, the body likes to be at a pH of 7.35 to 7.45. The stomach, however, which is very acidic, has a much lower pH of 1.35 to 3.50. In a condition known as diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), ketones, which are acids, build up in the blood and urine.”

To keep tabs on precisely how acidic or alkaline one is, there is the HealthyWiser™ pH Tests Strips which have been proven to be very reliable and for convenience it allows for the analysis of both saliva and urine samples. Furthermore, regularly checking ketone levels is well advised for diabetics as ketones are quite acidic in nature, for this they can rely on the HealthyWiser™ Ketone Reagent Urinalysis Test available.
