( — August 10, 2018) Orlando, FL — Today, ultra-processed foods have become the easiest and cheapest to grab. While they are convenient and inexpensive, it is worth mentioning that they have long been known to be unhealthy.

Scientists conducted a study involving 105,000 participants. It indicated that there is a possible link between highly processed foods and cancer.

The French researchers suggest that some foods increase the risk of cancer. This ultra-processed foods include like chicken nuggets, cakes, and mass-produced bread.

It also includes sweet or savory packaged snacks like crisps, mass-produced packaged breads and buns, sodas and sweetened drinks, and chocolate bars and sweets. Meatballs, fish nuggets, poultry, instant noodles and soups, and frozen or shelf-life ready meals are included, as well.

Experts even warn against the consumption of foods that are made mostly from oils, fats, and sugar. The findings of the study were published in the British Medical Journal.

These results demonstrated that if an increase in the proportion of ultra-processed food by 10 percent can potentially enhance the number of cancers detected by also 12 percent.

The World Health Organization has long warned that processed meat could slightly increase cancer risk.

The study mentioned above was performed by a team of scientists at University Sorbonne Paris Cite.

In the study, the investigators followed mostly middle-aged women for an average of five years. It was found that on average, 18 percent of the diet was ultra-processed.

It is worth mentioning that every year, 79 cancers per 10,000 people are found.

The scientists said that the results show the rapidly increasing consumption of ultra-processed foods may drive the sky-rocketing burden of cancer in the next decades.

In addition to cancer, consumption of these foods is also associated with the onset of various conditions and behaviors.

In some people, consumption of ultra-processed foods has been associated with less physical activity, increased tendency to smoke, and increased consumption of calories.

According to Prof Linda Bauld, Cancer Research UK’s prevention expert, it has already been known that consumption of a lot of these foods can also result in weight gain. It is important to remember that obesity or being overweight can increase the risk of cancer.
