ENM Construction Management is proud to announce its decision to join the Canadian Federation of Independent Businesses. CFIB is a proven champion of small business in Canada, representing their interests and helping to insure that government policies don’t negatively impact them.

ENM hopes to benefit from CFIB’s numerous resources for businesses. They provide human resources services, such as anti-bullying programs, hiring packages, and employer standards. They will advise us on our policies for statutory pay and holiday pay and provide protocols for terminating employees.

Our co-founder Daniel Greenhalgh is excited about the new partnership. “It’s important for small businesses like ours who don’t have as many resources as large companies to have an organization like this looking out for us. Along with the advice and consultation on the everyday functions of our business, they come to us for our views on certain issues or policies that may affect us. When a policy is being considered, they can provide a collective voice for small businesses. They make our impact much more powerful and they make our message more succinct.”

CFIB will assist ENM with our compliance with Worker’s Compensation Board standards. “If there’s ever an issue that we want to dispute, CFIB gives us a great method of doing that. They have a full-time lawyer on staff who specializes in WCB rules. If we ever have a question about a policy or want to know if he thinks they’re overreaching on certain things, he’ll consult with us about that. That’s a valuable resource to have.”

The CFIB represents over 110,000 small businesses in Canada, including 10,000 businesses in British Columbia. They sponsor yearly initiatives like Red Tape Awareness Week, during which they highlight excessive regulations and point out concrete examples of how too much bureaucracy can affect the running of a business. They also organize Small Business Saturday every October, a campaign that helps point Canadians to small businesses in their area that they can support.

Membership is $250 a year plus $30 for each employee, up to a maximum of $3,500. It includes access to several “privilege programs” for things like courier, and bank and insurance services. They also provide a payroll program for their members.

“I’m very happy we decided to join, and I’d encourage any small business to take a look at the CFIB and consider whether they could benefit from their services.”
