(Newswire.net — April 22, 2019) Orlando, FL — Antibiotics are a popular treatment for UTIs. They have long been known to cause side effects, and in a new study they have been found to affect the elderly in a different way.

A study was published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society. In this study, the scientists found that among nursing home residents, use of antibiotics is strongly linked with new or worsening confusion.

The treatment of antibiotics was addressed to a suspected UTI. This type of infection is widely prevalent nowadays and is responsible for the wide use of antibiotics from around the world. This study was made by Sean Mayne, MBBS, from James Cook University in Cairns, Australia, and colleagues.

The investigators reviewed the charts of 450 NH residents. They aimed at determining the rate of documented UTI as well as the new or worsening symptoms that are specific or even nonspecific to the use of antibiotics for urinary tract infection.

They also included medical conditions as well as medication factors. It was found that UTI was responsible for 33 percent of all current infections for which antibiotics were used as a treatment.

The scientists further found that one in five NH residents had taken antibiotics in a span of 30 days, and 45 percent of which were for urinary tract infections. The investigators suggest that there could be a link between antibiotic use and new or worsening confusion.

It is worth mentioning that the use of antibiotics have also been found to be detrimental to the beneficial bacteria in the body. Good bacteria have roles to play, and when they are destroyed by antibiotics, it can have negative effects.

What makes the use of antibiotics even more disadvantageous is that they can cause antibiotics resistance. It is always wise to take the measures helpful in reducing the risk of urinary tract infections.

UTIs are more likely to happen to women, and this is according to some studies. Researchers reveal this is due to the fact that females have a shorter urethra.

Some experts strongly recommend drinking lots of water to flush bacteria from the body. There are also natural remedies like D-mannose that continue to gain attention from researchers and consumers.

D-mannose is a sugar found in cranberry, and is believed to be a great preventive measure against and treatment of UTIs.

It is thought to be a lot better and safer than antibiotics as it doesn’t cause side effects. D-mannose sticks with the E.coli bacteria, and prevent it from causing an infection.

There are many who turn to the use of Divine Bounty D-mannose, which is a formula known for its high potency and purity (http://amazon.com/D-Mannose-600mg-Cranberry-Dandelion-Extract/dp/B01LX5KGF0).
