(Newswire.net — July 4, 2019) Orlando, FL — Sleep issues affect more and more people today. Unfortunately, they do more than just affect one’s productivity at work and functionality at home, especially for females.
Researchers at Duke University Medical Center suggest that women with poor sleep tend to suffer from more damage to their cardiovascular health than men.
The study has further shown that poor sleep is linked with higher psychological distress as well as higher levels of biomarkers, which are associated with the increased risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
According to study author Edward Suarez, this is the first empirical evidence that supports what we have observed about the role of gender and its effects upon sleep and health.
Suarez is an associate professor in the department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences.
“The study suggests that poor sleep — measured by the total amount of sleep, the degree of awakening during the night, and most importantly, how long it takes to get to sleep — may have more serious health consequences for women than for men,” he added.
The study was published online in the journal Brain, Behavior and Immunity.
This research looked into 210 healthy middle-aged women and women with no history of diagnosed sleep disorders. Around 40 percent of the participants were categorized as poor sleepers, which meant they had frequent issues falling asleep.
It also meant they awoke frequently during the night. The investigators found that there was a strong link between poor sleep and high levels of psychological stress.
Experts have long been stressing the importance of getting adequate sleep for overall health maintenance. It is important to understand that inadequate sleep has long been linked with a host of undesirable health consequences.
There are various factors affecting poor sleep, and some researchers suggest it could be the body’s way to say that it needs to detoxify from toxins. It is important to realize that today, toxins can be found pretty much everywhere.
In some studies, toxin buildup inside the body significantly promotes poor sleep. This is why one of the helpful ways to achieve a decent sleep is to detoxify.
One technique to detoxify the body is to use activated charcoal, which is popularized by its highly porous surface. Activated charcoal is actually widely used nowadays for various medicinal purposes, such as for digestive issues and food poisoning.
Through its highly porous surface, it works wonders in trapping toxins and getting rid of them from the body. Experts have long been warning against toxins as they tend to cause disruptions inside the body’s processes. By eliminating toxins, the body may be able to get better sleep.
