(Newswire.net — October 24, 2019) — The number of newspaper in Greece rose rapidly in a period of 15 years. Between the year 1950 and 1965 the number has increased from 68 to 156. This is a good move towards economic development and entrepreneurship. The more newspaper publishing companies we have, the more unemployment to graduates in that area will be curbed. Since these newspapers are so many and cannot be discussed at once, some selected newspaper as of top news from Greece include;

Kathmerini

 This is a daily broadcast newspaper that has been in existence since the year 1919 when its first edition was published. It is also available online and in two languages that is Greek language and abridged English. It was founded by Georgios Vlachos and has its headquarters in Neo Faliro. Even since its foundation, Kathmerini has not changed its logo and it continues to maintain as much tradition as it can. We all know of Greece and its history.

Eleftherotypia

Even though this daily newspaper was shut down back in 2014, it had tremendous influence in news circulation. Founded in 1979, the newspaper was declared bankrupt in 2011, and comparing it to Kathmerini, Eleftherotypia was not able to survive in the industry. Surprisingly, it was the first newspaper to appear after the fall of the regime of colonels.

Avgi

Avgi, often referred to as ‘morning newspaper of the left’ was first published in 1952, and it has a political affiliate with Syriza.

Espresso

This newspaper is available both in print and online. It is a daily, generalist newspaper that do not have any political or religion affiliation.

Estia

This is the oldest Greece newspaper because it was found in 1876 and is still in circulation to date. How good is the management, must be having a very strong foundation to survive against all odds for those decades. It began as a literary magazine before being upgraded to newspaper in 1894. The newspaper received recognition in 2014 from Karolos Papoulias, the then president of Greece, during its 20th anniversary. After such a long time of running as a family business, it is owned by Estia Newspaper S.A, but still has its headquarters in Athens.

Ethnos

This is a daily newspaper which had it first publication in 1913. Despite it being discontinued from publishing in 1970 Dimitris Varos, a Greek pot and journalist managed to bring it back to life in 1981. Currently, the newspaper is under the publication of Dimera Media Investments, who bought it back in 2017.

To vima

Ever since its first publication in 1922 by Dimitris Lambrakis, this daily newspaper was owned by Lambrakis Press Group up until 2017 when the company was absorbed by Alter Ego Media S.A. to Vima is still publishing and continues to give information to the give residents of the nation top news from Greece.

Ta Nea

Lambrakis Press Group, the same company that published To vima also owned Ta Nea. It is a daily newspaper, which publishes in Greek. During its foundation in 1931, it was originally called Athinaika Nea, Athens News. However, it is now under Alter Ego Media S.A., a company that has taken over lambrakis Press Group’s assets.

Stochos

Founded in 1985, this newspaper is a weekly publication. During the ownership by its original founder, Georgios Kapsalis, the newspaper did not support a single political party. I see this being reasonable because as a company that is serving the whole nation, taking sides might lead to even poor performance. However, this has changed since the death of its founder, and now the newspaper has a political party ally.

Trying to exhaust all the newspapers in Greece, is trying to tour the whole world in a day. There are so many newspapers in circulation with different rankings. What is common in these newspapers is that most of them were founded during the 19s and only a few newspapers have recently been published.
