The temperature  is around 15 degree Celsius throughout the year as it remains cool and much cooler than other coastal areas. The sunniest and driest time is from January to March, and the wettest months are October and November. The Central Hills includes Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Peradeniya Botanical Gardens. So if one wants to explore the hilly area in Sri Lanka, then March is the best month to visit Sri Lanka

  • April to September – For Eastern and Northern areas

From November to March, a monsoon hits this place very badly and the wettest months are November and December. So in order to avoid this and experience a  better holiday one has to visit the Eastern and Northern areas of Sri Lanka from April to September. You can see the short and sharp rain showers in the month of August and September. 

Party freaks must visit in April as there is a New Year festival during this  time. In the month of July, the traditional Esala festival is celebrated in Kataragama. . In this festival celebrated on the name of the first teachings given by Buddha. You can see whip crackers, elephants, Hewisi drummers and Borukakul Karaya stilt walkers. After that, in the month of August, the second of the Esala festival happens in the Kandy region of Sri Lanka. This festival is on for 10 days and one can experience dancers, jugglers, musicians, fire-breathers, decorated elephants just like in Kataragama. You must try local delicacies including okra and banana flowers. Hence, April to September is the best time to visit Sri Lanka.

  • October to March – For West and Southern Coastline

This place gives you a beach vibe. So if you are a beach person, then you must visit this place in the months from October to March as after monsoon season the weather is quite normal during this period. From January to March the sea remains calm so you dip in the sea and feel the nature around you. During these months you can spot Blue and Sperm Whales as well. The places you must have to visit in this area are Chilaw in the west, Galle in the south and the capital Colombo in the south-west. This is off-season so you can avoid crowds in that area. More importantly, October and November are festive months as the biggest Hindu festival, Deepavali takes place. You can experience the houses which are beautifully decorated by the locals, try local cuisine and go to Kandaswany Kovil which is the most admired Hindu temple of Sri Lanka.
