Yi Mandarin’s classes are held in small groups to help speed up learning with increased attention from the trainers. While the online course can have up to 8 people a class, the on-site classes will be limited to 4 students to allow for proper social distancing.
As opposed to many traditional schools that place emphasis on the academic side, Yi Mandarin takes a more practical approach. The Mandarin course’s curriculum is Singapore-specific and covers vocabulary and materials that are useful to those living and working in the country.
Upon joining, students will undergo an assessment to determine their proficiency. Based on this, the trainer will recommend a beginner, intermediate or advanced level course. Yi Mandarin offers 3 types of courses, which cover conversational, business and professional Mandarin.
The conversational course is for beginners who want to learn Mandarin that is applicable to common social or work-related scenarios. As this course focuses purely on conversational fluency, it does not cover reading or writing in Mandarin.
For those seeking mastery over reading, writing and speaking, the business Mandarin course provides more advanced proficiency. The trainers will cover advanced sentence structures and formal writing that is used in a largely Chinese-speaking business environment. This could be useful to know when navigating business negotiations in Mandarin.
