Yi Mandarin has launched beginner, intermediate and advanced level Mandarin courses for adults. Students can attend conversational or professional Mandarin classes on-site or online.

Yi Mandarin, based in Singapore’s Central Business District, has updated its on-site and online Mandarin language classes for adults. Offering both conversational and professional Mandarin courses, the Chinese language school intentionally limits each class to between 4 and 8 people to allow for faster learning in a socially-distanced environment.

The courses were introduced to allow students to attend Mandarin classes in a safe learning environment. Yi Mandarin’s classes are held in small groups to help speed up learning with increased attention from the trainers. While the online course can have up to 8 people a class, the on-site classes will be limited to 4 students to allow for proper social distancing.

As opposed to many traditional schools that place emphasis on the academic side, Yi Mandarin takes a more practical approach. The Mandarin course’s curriculum is Singapore-specific and covers vocabulary and materials that are useful to those living and working in the country.

Upon joining, students will undergo an assessment to determine their proficiency. Based on this, the trainer will recommend a beginner, intermediate or advanced level course. Yi Mandarin offers 3 types of courses, which cover conversational, business and professional Mandarin.

The conversational course is for beginners who want to learn Mandarin that is applicable to common social or work-related scenarios. As this course focuses purely on conversational fluency, it does not cover reading or writing in Mandarin.

For those seeking mastery over reading, writing and speaking, the business Mandarin course provides more advanced proficiency. The trainers will cover advanced sentence structures and formal writing that is used in a largely Chinese-speaking business environment. This could be useful to know when navigating business negotiations in Mandarin.

Lastly, the professional Mandarin course is a master class designed for professionals who want to learn business-focused language and terminology suited to various types of industries. The course can be customized to meet the professional’s individual needs.

Founded in 2011, Yi Mandarin has trained both local and foreign professionals from Fortune 500 companies. Manager Candy Lee is a non-native Mandarin speaker who co-founded Yi Mandarin to help others learn the language as she did. With an experienced team of Chinese teachers, the school is well equipped to train students from various cultural and professional backgrounds.

A pleased student said: “After completing a course here at Yi Mandarin, I can now understand both written and spoken Mandarin. Group sessions were fun because we got to converse with each other in Mandarin.”
