(Newswire.net — September 8, 2021) Orlando, FL — Hypertension is undeniably common today, and more and more people are at the increased odds of heart disease because of it. There have been many studies looking into the various aspects of this health issue and its link with some other diseases.

One study was carried out and published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), which is the leading international medical journal.

This research, which was completed in NUI Galway, has revealed that blood pressure reduction lessened the odds of dementia and cognitive impairment by 7 percent. It is worth keeping in mind that reduced blood pressure was achieved in this study through the intake of certain medications.

In this systematic review and meta-analysis, the researchers included fourteen randomized controlled trials or 96,158 participants. They have particularly found that the antihypertensive drugs lessened the odds of cognitive impairment or dementia by 7 percent and cognitive decline also by 7 percent in a span of four years.

“When you consider how common dementia is in the population (50 million people worldwide), effective treatment and control of hypertension would have a major impact on preventing dementia. Our findings emphasize the need for more effective screening, prevention, and treatment of hypertension, which remains suboptimal in Ireland,” explains Dr. Conor Judge.

Dr. Judge is joint first author and Wellcome Trust Health Research Board Irish Clinical Academic Training (ICAT) fellow.

“We know from The Irish Longitudinal Study on Aging that two-thirds of people aged over 50 in Ireland have hypertension (high blood pressure), of which half are unaware of the diagnosis, and one third are not on treatment. This is a major care gap,” he continued.

Due to this study, dementia prevention can now be added to the benefits of treating high blood pressure.

Experts are increasingly studying the techniques potentially useful in battling dementia. There have been many studies that suggest making dietary and lifestyle improvements is key to maintaining and protecting brain health.

Intake of B vitamins may be particularly beneficial as they are loaded with therapeutic agents. In some studies, B vitamins have been found to work wonders in enhancing certain aspects of brain health.

Today, they are obtained widely through the use of supplements like Divine Bounty B Vitamin Complex. It could be a helpful formula for individuals who are trying to enhance and protect their brains.
