Research Warns the Brain May Hold the Key to Fighting Overeating

(Newswire.net — November 2, 2021) Orlando, FL — Obesity has long been a chronic ailments experts warn against. This is due to the fact that it could increase the odds of certain diseases.

One of the major contributing factors to weight gain is overeating, which can also be influenced by many things. This is why experts are increasingly investigating the ways to fight to overeat.

A study was carried out by a 10-member team spearheaded by Brandon Warren, Ph.D., assistant professor of pharmacodynamics at the University of Florida.

The team also includes Sergio Iñiguez, Ph.D., associate professor of psychology at The University of Texas at El Paso. He directs UTEP’s Iñiguez Behavioral Neuroscience Lab and helped design novel experimental techniques.

They looked into the specific brain area tied not just to recollection but also the desire to seek and consume food. It is worth noting that this may help find a way to inhibit the desire to overeat.

“People tend to overeat when exposed to cues or environments that remind them of treats, which is one reason why people opt for dessert even after a filling meal,” said Iñiguez.

It is worth noting that in this study, the neurons in a certain part of the brain work in controlling the association between the cue (seeing the dessert) and the action (ordering the dessert).

The research team has found that animal subjects ate fewer treats when they regulated that region of the animal’s brain.

The investigators believe that the techniques and data may aid in overcoming certain issues associated with obesity. These particularly include high levels of bad cholesterol, stroke, Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and coronary heart disease.

“This is a big discovery because we now have experimental tools that allow us to turn off neurons while the subjects engage in a specific behavior,” Iñiguez said.

“This research shows that a specific part of the prefrontal cortex of the brain is important for the initial stages of learning to seek food,” he added.

It is vital to avoid overeating to maintain a healthy weight. It is similarly important to make the right food choices and follow a healthy diet. There are many factors found to contribute to weight management, such as meal timing.

There are even all-natural plant-based remedies like the use of L-Carnitine that may be helpful. This is due to the fact that it enhances energy levels and boosts the body’s ability to burn extra fat.

There are formulas like Divine Bounty L-Carnitine that may be helpful in delivering its weight loss benefits (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XF7K9MM).
