A New Study Highlights Link In Between Fat Cells and the Body’s Reaction to Heart Failure

(Newswire.net — November 23, 2021) Orlando, FL — Health experts have long been warning against the link between obesity and negative cardiovascular health outcomes. There have even been many studies that have stressed such association and how it can be prevented.

A study was carried out and published in the American Journal of Physiology.

This research, which was carried out by the scientists from the University of Alberta, has shown that limiting the amount of fat the body releases into the bloodstream from fat cells during heart failure could help enhance outcomes for patients.

Jason Dyck, professor of pediatrics in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry and director of the U of A’s Cardiovascular Research Centre carried out the research. He also holds the Canada Research Chair in Molecular Medicine and is a member of the Alberta Diabetes Institute and the Women and Children’s Health Research Institute.

The findings particularly stressed that mice with heart failure treated with a drug blocking the release of fat into the bloodstream from fat cells exhibited less inflammation in the heart and throughout the body.

Further, they tended to have better outcomes than a control group.

“Many people believe that, by definition, heart failure is only a condition of the heart. But it’s much broader and multiple organs are affected by it,” said Dyck.

“What we’ve shown in mice is that if you can target fat cells with a drug and limit their ability to release stored fat during heart failure, you can protect the heart and improve cardiac function,” he added.

It is worth noting that during times of stress, such as in the case of heart failure, the body releases epinephrine, norepinephrine, and other stress hormones to help the heart compensate. The heart becomes unable to function any better and is under further damage by being forced to pump faster.

This triggers the body to release more stress hormones. As the process cascades, the heart function continues to decline.

This is the reason why beta-blocker drugs are used as a common treatment for heart failure. These medications are actually formulated to block the impacts of stress hormones on the heart.

Studies looking into the importance of maintaining a healthy weight continue to increase. It is worth noting that in addition to making dietary and lifestyle improvements, it is also wise to take into account using formulas like Divine Bounty L-Carnitine.

In some studies, it has been found L-Carnitine worked in enhancing energy levels and this makes it helpful in maintaining exercise performance. It also helps the body shed extra fat.
