(Newswire.net — December 13, 2021) Orlando, FL — Depression in itself is already threatening considering that it is the culprit behind the high suicide rates in many areas around the globe. It is also worth noting that it is also linked with certain complications.

Researchers reveal that poor mood may result not just in the worsening of diet but also less exercise. More particularly, the investigators report that it seems to increase the odds of diabetes in older individuals.

According to lead researcher Mercedes R. Carnethon, older adults who report high levels of depressive symptoms are more likely to develop diabetes over time than older adults who have lower depressive symptoms.

Carnethon is an assistant professor of preventive medicine, at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University.

“We need to carefully evaluate older adults for depressive symptoms, and they need to be taken seriously because of the potential impact,” she added.

The findings of this research were published in the April 23 issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine.

In this research, the investigating team gathered data on nearly 4,700 individuals who were 65 years of age and above. It is worth noting that the subjects were not diabetic at the start of the study.

The battle against diabetes continues, especially in the scientific community. More and more researchers are actually carrying out studies to explore the ways to help fight the disease.

It is worth noting that in some studies, a natural remedy called milk thistle may be useful. More particularly, it has been found to aid in the management of type 2 diabetes.

Researchers reveal that milk thistle possesses a therapeutic compound called silymarin, which has been able to demonstrate its ability to work as effectively as diabetic medications. Studies show it aids in enhancing insulin sensitivity as well as reducing blood sugar.

Recently, a review and analysis have shown that individuals who regularly consumed silymarin achieved a significant decrease in their fasting blood sugar levels and HbA1c, a measure of blood sugar control.

Milk thistle has further been scientifically found to possess antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agents, which may be useful in decreasing the risk of diabetic complications. These particularly include kidney disease.

In addition to its diabetes-fighting benefits, milk thistle has also been found to aid in fighting depression as well as other diseases. It could be a preventive remedy against a wide range of ailments.
