New Research Ties Insomnia With the Increased Risk of Stroke and Heart Disease

(Newswire.net — December 22, 2021) Orlando, FL — Sleep troubles have long been linked with health issues, and this is why experts have been increasingly warning against not having adequate or quality sleep.

A study was published in the Circulation, which is the journal of the American Heart Association.

The findings have shown that individuals with insomnia may be at a heightened risk of coronary artery disease, heart failure, and stroke.

It is worth noting that in previous observational studies, an association has been found between insomnia and the increased odds of heart disease and stroke. Insomnia, on the other hand, happens to 30 percent of the general population.

According to Susanna Larsson, Ph.D., these observational studies were unable to determine whether insomnia is a cause.

Larsson is the lead study author and associate professor of cardiovascular and nutritional epidemiology at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden.

In this study, the investigators used Mendelian randomization and this is a technique that utilizes genetic variants linked with a potential risk factor like insomnia. This is to lessen bias in the results.

The investigators have particularly found a link between the genetic variants for insomnia and a significantly higher risk of heart failure, ischemic stroke, and coronary artery disease. This particularly involves large artery stroke and not atrial fibrillation.

It is important to note that while sleep deprivation has long been linked with the increased odds of diseases, many people are still left struggling to get a decent sleep.

The good news is that certain remedies like the use of curcumin may be helpful in delivering sleep benefits. This phytochemical popularizes an ancient, medicinal spice called turmeric, which has long been used in Ayurvedic medicine.

In various research studies, curcumin has been found to have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anticarcinogenic, antiproliferative, insulin-sensitizing, androgenic, antifibrotic, neurorestorative, and metal-chelating properties.

It also contains anti-platelet, antioxidant, anti-amyloidogenic, anti-cytotoxic, antibiotic, antimicrobial, immunomodulating, and anti-catabolic agents.

Curcumin has been found to exert different mechanisms to benefit sleep. In a study, it has been found to offer protection from sleep deprivation symptoms to 72-hour sleep-deprived mice. Curcumin treatment for five days has also been found to significantly prevent impairment in locomotor activity.

Aside from its sleep benefits, it is important to note some studies have shown this remedy could also combat stroke and heart attack.

There are many health benefits linked with its use and this is why today, more and more researchers are recommending its use.

Formulas like Divine Bounty Curcumin may be beneficial for individuals who want to benefit from this remedy’s healing goodness (http://amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-BioPerine-Pepper-Extract/dp/B00VSVKJ8I).
