Small Dietary Changes May Promote Longevity, a Study Shows

(Newswire.net — February 3, 2022) Orlando, FL — Over the years, researchers have been stressing the relevance of taking some measures helpful in increasing protection against diseases and extending lifespan.

A study has particularly shown that making small dietary changes is helpful in living healthier and more sustainably.

The researchers have shown that the consumption of hot dogs can take away 36 minutes of healthy life. The good news is that eating a serving of nuts may help one gain 26 minutes of extra healthy life.

This study from the University of Michigan study was published in the Nature Food journal.

It looked into over 5,800 foods and ranked them based on their nutritional disease burden to humans and their effects on the environment.

It particularly found that substituting 10 percent of daily caloric intake from processed meats and beef for a mix of vegetables, legumes, nuts, fruits, and select seafood may lessen dietary carbon footprint by one-third.

Further, it allows people to gain 48 minutes of healthy minutes per day.

“Generally, dietary recommendations lack specific and actionable direction to motivate people to change their behavior, and rarely do dietary recommendations address environmental impacts,” said Katerina Stylianou.

Stylianou carried out the research as a doctoral candidate and postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences at U-M’s School of Public Health. She currently works as the Director of Public Health Information and Data Strategy at the Detroit Health Department.

It recommends reducing the intake of foods with the most negative health and environmental effects. These are shrimp, beef, highly processed meat, pork, lamb, and greenhouse-grown vegetables.

Studies looking into the impacts of food on health and longevity continue to pile up. It is important to note that there are many foods found to be particularly helpful for disease protection and longevity.

These include the medicinal mushroom called lion’s mane, which has neuroprotective, cardiovascular-health enhancing, anti-inflammatory, cognitive-decline-fighting, nerve repairing, blood-pressure lowering, immunity-boosting, cholesterol-regulating, and weight management properties.

Over the years, the scientific community has been carrying out studies to look into the effects of this mushroom on disease protection. Some studies have demonstrated its intake is linked with increased protection against certain diseases.

Today, it is consumed widely through the use of formulas like Divine Bounty Lion’s Mane. This highly potent and pure formula is made carefully in an FDA-inspected facility in the U.S. and is thought to be superior to other brands.

Aside from being highly potent, it is also free from nasty ingredients and contaminants like GMOs, binders, additives, and preservatives (https://amazon.com/Organic-Lions-Mane-Mushroom-Capsules/dp/B07LGR1KN7).
