Scientists Now Highlight Benefits of Time-Restricted Eating for Blood Glucose

Researchers from the University of Adelaide and the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) carried out a study.

In this research, it has been shown that restricting the time period during which the subjects could eat led to better blood glucose level control. The participants of this study were men at an increased risk of type 2 diabetes. 

The findings of this interesting research were published in the Obesity journal. 

The investigators evaluated the impacts of time-restricted eating (TRE) in 15 men for one week.

According to Associate Professor Leonie Heilbronn, the men, who are at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes, limit their food intake to a nine-hour period per day.

Associate Professor Heilbronn is from the University’s Adelaide Medical School and SAHMRI.

The investigators said that modulating when, instead of what, people eat can enhance glucose control. It is worth noting that in many research studies, it has been found food choices have a significant influence on blood glucose levels.

The study findings seem to suggest that time-restricted eating shows people can enjoy foods known to be bad for the body. 

However, their intake at the right time of the day may not be harmful, especially when they are consumed during the times when the body is more biologically able to deal with the nutrient load.

Another study was carried out involving people with type 2 diabetes. It has been found the administration of ashwagandha for 30 days led to reduced fasting blood sugar levels as effectively as oral diabetes medication.
