(Newswire.net — June 8, 2022) Orlando, FL — Over decades, researchers have been performing studies to look into the effects of food on health. Many of these studies particularly stress the relevance of avoiding unhealthy foods.

A study was carried out and published in the Alzheimer’s & Dementia: The Journal of the Alzheimer’s Association.

It was carried out by the researchers at Rush University Medical Center.

In this research, it has been found that due to the high frequency of unhealthy food intake, the benefits of Mediterranean diet are reduced.

According to Puja Agarwal, Ph.D., eating a diet that emphasizes vegetables, fruit, fish, and whole grains may positively affect a person’s health.

Agarwal is a nutritional epidemiologist and assistant professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at Rush Medical College.

“But when it is combined with fried food, sweets, refined grains, red meat, and processed meat, we observed that the benefits of eating the Mediterranean part of the diet seem to be diminished,” she adds.

It is important to keep in mind that in past research studies, a Mediterranean diet is linked with slower rates of cognitive decline in older adults.

This observational study involved 5,001 older adults situated in Chicago. The subjects of this research were part of the Chicago Health and Aging Project, an evaluation of cognitive health in adults over the age of 65 conducted from 1993 to 2012.

Making the right food choices is indeed highly influential on the body’s risk of diseases. Food could be a source of substances that may wreak havoc on health or vitamins and minerals that have disease-fighting benefits.

It is important to keep in mind that adequate intake of nutrients is also vital for immune system health. In these times of pandemic, health authorities stress the relevance of maintaining strong immunity.

The relevance of maintaining a strong immune system is hard to ignore nowadays, considering that it significantly influences one’s chances of survival. This is due to the fact that when the body has strong defenses, it is better able to combat the impacts of Covid-19.
