(Newswire.net — July 13, 2022) Orlando, FL — There is a growing body of evidence suggesting that certain techniques are particularly helpful for cognitive health. These include engaging in certain activities like meditation, which has been linked with a myriad of health benefits.

A new review was carried out and published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease.

In this research, the investigators found that spiritual fitness, as well as Kirtan Kriya, may lessen the risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease.

It is worth noting that spiritual fitness is a new concept in medicine that focuses on psychological and spiritual wellbeing. The Kirtan Kriya, on the other hand, pertains to a simple 12-minute meditative practice.

“The key point of this review is that making a commitment to a brain longevity lifestyle, including spiritual fitness, is a critically important way for aging Alzheimer’s disease-free,” explains the authors.

The authors of this research were Dharma Singh Khalsa, MD, Alzheimer’s Research and Prevention Foundation, Tucson, AZ, USA, and Andrew B. Newberg, MD, Department of Integrative Medicine and Nutritional Sciences, Department of Radiology, Marcus Institute of Integrative Health, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA, USA.

“We hope this article will inspire scientists, clinicians, and patients to embrace this new concept of spiritual fitness and make it a part of every multidomain program for the prevention of cognitive disability.”

The findings have particularly shown that spiritual and religious involvement can aid in preserving cognitive function as one age.

It is worth noting that spiritual fitness is actually a new dimension in the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease. It has been particularly found that those who have a high score on a “purpose in life” (PIL) measure was more likely to remain free of AD by 2.4 times than individuals with low PIL.

There is another study showing the link between higher PIL levels and enhanced cognitive function. Further, PIL has been found to offer protection to those with already existing pathological conditions, thus slowing their decline.

Aside from meditation, there are actually many ways particularly found helpful in protecting and enhancing cognitive function. These include proper nourishment, which has long been studied due to its roles in keeping the body disease-free.
