Using Spices May Help in Managing Inflammation Levels, Experts Say

(Newswire.net — July 27, 2022) Orlando, FL — Today, an increasing number of studies are looking into the impacts of using kitchen ingredients in managing inflammation.

It is worth noting that inflammation is highly manageable, especially through making certain dietary modifications. There are many items in the kitchen found to have strong anti-inflammatory benefits.

A study was carried out and published in the Journal of Nutrition.

In this randomized, controlled feeding study, the Penn State researchers used a blend of basil, bay leaf, black pepper, red pepper, rosemary, thyme, cinnamon, coriander, cumin, ginger, oregano, parsley, and turmeric.

They found that when participants consumed a meal high in carbohydrates and fat combined with the six grams of spice blend, they achieved a reduction in inflammation markers. Such an improvement was not observed when they ate a meal with less or no spices.

According to Connie Rogers, associate professor of nutritional sciences, if spices are palatable to you, they might be a way to make a high-fat or high-carb meal more healthful.

“We can’t say from this study if it was one spice in particular, but this specific blend seemed to be beneficial,” he adds.

Previous research studies have linked a variety of spices with anti-inflammatory properties. Their intake has even been reputed to be extremely helpful in fighting chronic inflammation, which is linked with poor health outcomes.

These include diseases like cancer, cardiovascular disease, and overweight and obesity, which affect approximately 72 percent of the U.S. population.

Recent studies suggest that a spike in the levels of inflammation often occurs after one eats a meal loaded with sugar or fat.

“Ultimately the gold standard would be to get people eating more healthfully and to lose weight and exercise, but those behavioral changes are difficult and take time,” Rogers said.

“So in the interim, we wanted to explore whether a combination of spices that people are already familiar with and could fit in a single meal could have a positive effect,” he adds.

Today, one of the widely studied spices found to have anti-inflammatory benefits is turmeric. This deep yellow-orange spice contains various healing agents, such as the phytochemical called curcumin.

This therapeutic agent is a popular subject of research due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potentials. It continues to be widely used through supplementation for preventive health purposes.

Further, this natural remedy may be obtained through the use of supplements like Divine Bounty Curcumin. This amazing formula continues to be a popular choice due to its high potency and purity (https://amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-BioPerine-Pepper-Extract/dp/B00VSVKJ8I).
